Gaeilge & Fáilte Project | Fáilte Ireland

The Challenge

There is a strong appetite from many tourists to experience the Irish language as a living language.

Gaeilge & Fáilte, a new project from Fáilte Ireland, aims to promote tourism experiences in Ireland's Gaeltacht regions, while captivating visitors with the unique charm and cultural heritage these coastal destinations have to offer. Through stunning visuals and storytelling, the project sought to inspire travellers to explore the vibrant tapestry of the Gaeltacht.

The project’s target audience included domestic and international tourists interested in exploring Ireland's Gaeltacht regions and its language.

Many tourists in Ireland, both domestic and international, are interested in experiencing the Irish language.

The Gaeilge & Fáilte project aimed to share the Gaeltacht experience’s unique selling point of the Irish Language and to open up an entirely new cultural experience.

The Solution

The project's objective was to develop high-quality content (video, photography and PR content) that authentically shared the stories of these unique businesses offering experiences with the Irish language in Gaeltacht areas.

This content had to uniquely capture the experience offered, how the Irish language was a core part of the experience and why visitors should choose both the destination and the experience to be part of their holiday.

Bua worked with the Fáilte Ireland Wild Atlantic Way team to develop a suite of content for each of the twenty Gaeltacht businesses participating in the programme.

For the photography and video content; we worked with Islander who embarked on a monster road trip along the Wild Atlantic Way, from the North Donegal Gaeltacht, via North Mayo, Connemara, onto the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht in West Kerry and finishing up in the beautiful Déise Gaeltacht in Co Waterford.

Bua project managed the engagement with the participating businesses and led on ensuring the Irish language featured front and centre in all content created; as per the client’s requirement.

Bua also created PR content for each participating business and worked with them to ensure they were equipped to use the content available to them.

Results

  • Each participating Gaeltacht business now has a mediabank of photos, videos and PR content to enable them to elevate their marketing activities and reach new audiences.

  • Fáilte Ireland has added all of the content to Ireland’s Content Pool and all of the Gaeltacht businesses now has their own content library for use.

  • Fáilte Ireland has planned campaigns to promote the Gaeltacht and use the content soon.

  • The project also culminated in the content being used to create a 10th Anniversary Celebration edit for the Wild Atlantic Way. Given this is Fáilte Ireland’s most successful destination brand; this was a real privilege to contribute to.

  • The edit included a bilingual script and a beautiful voiceover from Lorcán Ó Cinnéide of the Blasket Centre, one of the project’s participants. When interviewed for his organisation, he did such a good job that we had to use him again for the Wild Atlantic Way edit!
